The top three things you can do to help you get ready for paramedic class.

Fall paramedic class can soon be approaching. It can be both exciting and nervous time. Take the time you have before the class starts to get ready for the class. Here is three quick tips that can make a huge difference in your success in class.

The number one thing you can do in paramedic class is learn some time management skills. Learning to prioritize all the things in your life can have a huge impact. This not only will impact you as a student but as a family member, a friend and as a professional. Paramedic class will be one of the most challenging and time consuming ventures you take on. Learning to schedule all things you have coming will be a tough so get in the habit early. You’ll soon be scheduling work, class, clinicals, study and family time, start practicing now. Consider reading a book on time management. One of my favorites is Time Management Magic: How to Get More Done Every Day and Move from Surviving to Thriving . The author was Executive Vice President of Disney World. He has some amazing tips on time management. Sometimes time management comes down to the discipline of doing the schedule. Writing the schedule out and communicating with those around you. We all from time to time fall off that bandwagon but its important to get back on it.

The second thing to start early reviewing anatomy and physiology. So many times I see students that struggle in medic class because of their lack of understanding the human body. As a paramedic you need to understand not only what to do but other things as well. Our job as a paramedic starts with taking a patients chief complaint and asking questions that narrow it down to what systems are involved. Having a thorough knowledge will give you a head start. Many paramedic classes go though anatomy and physiology at a rapid pace. Having a thorough knowledge will give you a head start. I like the A&P coloring books as a start. They add a visual aspect as well. If you have little ones they will also enjoy some coloring time with mom or dad. I have personally used this one: Anatomy Coloring Book

The third thing you can do is spend sometime on learning how to study. Many of the paramedic students have been out of school for several years. The courses is somewhat fast paced for the large amount of information you’ll be given. As a paramedic instructor their job is to facilitate or set you up for learning. The learning is your job and we want you to do that as efficiently as possible You can find multiple resources out there that can help you with this. I read this Book years ago: What Smart Students Know: Maximum Grades. Optimum Learning. Minimum Time. It not only helped me learn but gave me useful knowledge that I’ve shared with my students.

Paramedic class is a great life experience you will never forget. Set yourself up for success early. So many students walk in unprepared. A little preparation will be monumental in your success.
